The drive for success fuels Danica Patrick both on and off the racetrack. As a fierce competitor who takes goals very seriously, she constantly pushes herself to take on and overcome new challenges. During our interview for the September/October cover story, Patrick shared her secrets to finding success.
Q: What personal attributes do you possess that have contributed most to your success?
A: I’m very determined and for the most part, I don’t care what people think of me. I like being different. It’s cool and it makes me stand out.
Q: What do you strive to perfect?
A: Right now, it’s my handstand. I’ve been working really hard on yoga in the mornings trying to make it better.
Q: What has failure taught you about success?
A: Failure definitely makes you appreciate success that much more! I really don’t see something as being a failure if you can learn something from the experience and use that information to make you better.
Q: What do you feel is your most successful moment, on or off the track?
A: Most recently, it was passing Jimmie Johnson to the outside on a restart at Talladega Superspeedway to take the lead last fall. He’s a six-time NASCAR Champion and one of the best drivers in our sport. Anytime you can compete with him you know you’re doing something right.
Q: What person or role model has inspired you most?
A: Growing up, I never really had someone that I wanted to be like. I always just wanted to be the best Danica that I could be.
