This easy and healthy holiday side dish features crisp green beans, lemon, garlic and a touch of sweetness from maple syrup. Add some chopped pecans for crunch, and this dish will outshine the main course.


2 tablespoons olive oil
2 pounds green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
2 tablespoons maple syrup
4 cloves garlic, minced
Zest of two lemons
1/3 cup pecans, chopped and toasted


In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add green beans and cook until still crisp, about 10 minutes. Add lemon juice, salt, pepper and maple syrup. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute longer. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with lemon zest and toasted pecans. Serve hot.
