As members become more savvy about what ingredients go into their favorite foods, it’s important to us at Sam’s Club to provide clean, quality products that fit their everyday needs.
From its simple ingredients to the packaging’s convenient handles, a lot of thought, testing and research went into our new Member’s Mark™ Applesauce. It has simple ingredients — apples and vitamin C (ascorbic acid) — and contains no added sugars or high-fructose corn syrup.
This product is made in the USA, comes from apples grown on a fourth-generation family farm in Michigan and is sold exclusively at Sam’s Club. There are a lot of applesauce variations on the market, and several contain high fructose corn syrup, additives and preservatives that many of our members are trying to avoid. We worked with our suppliers to gather samples from across the country, to identify the best tasting, cleanest applesauce available.
By providing our members this applesauce as a Member’s Mark product, not only were we able to secure clean ingredients and incredible flavor, we also created more value and savings by adding nine more cups to the pack than our competition offers without a price increase for our members.
Sam’s Club is very passionate about this product. We carefully thought about this product from the farm, to the club, to the member’s cart and then to their home. There’s a lot of planning that goes into every item we carry at Sam’s Club.
Member’s Mark Mandarin Orange fruit cups share a similar story. Several suppliers provided samples, and all were judged on appearance and brix rating. The higher the brix rating in a fruit, the sweeter it usually is. A fruit with a lower brix rating tends to be more sour or tart.
For the packing juice, we decided 100 percent pear juice was the best flavor match. What we’ve created is a mandarin orange cup that contains full segments of mandarins, and it’s packed in 100 percent juice with no added sugars or syrups. And because it’s a Member’s Mark product, we can provide eight more cups per pack than our competition, making it an incredible value for our members.
From concept to visiting the manufacturing facilities, we have closely followed every step of these products. And at only 50 calories per cup for the applesauce and less than 90 calories for the mandarin oranges, you can feel good about feeding your family these healthy snacks.
