Deciding which supplements to take is a highly personalized process. The veritable sea of choices for a specific need can add to the frustration and confusion of finding the products that are right for you.

With the Simply Right brand of supplements, our goal has always been to give members the highest quality supplement at the best possible value. That goal was at the forefront when our team launched Simply Right Lutein and Zeaxanthin in 2011. Sam’s Club already had a similar, successful supplement on the shelves with the Members Mark brand. But new scientific research led us to believe we could do better.

We started by testing a new and improved Simply Right formula. In a few short weeks our members responded by overwhelmingly favoring the changes, specifically the increase of zeaxanthin levels.

The industry standard for years had been a 20-to-1 percent mix of lutein and zeaxanthin, respectively. While lutein is the primary component in most eye-health supplements, research has shown that zeaxanthin plays an equally important role in eye health.

Keeping with the industry standard of 25mg of lutein, the Simply Right supplement was scientifically formulated to match the body’s naturally occurring 5-to1 blend of lutein and zeaxanthin. With a full 5mg of zeaxanthin added to the product, the new Simply Right formula mirrors the body’s natural composition.

Together, lutein and zeaxanthin protect the eyes from harmful sunlight and provide a boost to your vision in dim-light settings or where glare is a problem.

According to the American Optometric Association, of the 600 carotenoids in nature, only lutein and zeaxanthin are present in the human eye. The quality of the carotenoids in your eye specifically impact macular pigment optical density. Their measurement has become the medical standard for not only predicting macular degeneration but also determining overall visual function.

So why is this seemingly small increase of a single carotenoid in our Simply Right supplement so important? Simply put, numerous studies have shown macular degeneration to be the leading cause of blindness in adults older than 55.

That statistic was motivation enough for Sams Club and Simply Right to challenge those industry standards and create a clear choice for our members in their search for the best supplements.
